extracting zip files

i am trying to install the demo pack by following your tutorials.

in cpanel i go to public_html and then to a subfolder (zhongwenmovies) where i am installing the files.

one thing i notice right off is that the upload time is considerably different from your tutorial. on the tutorial upload takes about 15-20 seconds but for me it says about 20 minutes.

then, after upload, when i try to extract the files, i get an error message which says:

/home/deejaydo/public_html/zhongwenmovies.com/Youshows_Demo.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/deejaydo/public_html/zhongwenmovies.com/Youshows_Demo.zip or
/home/deejaydo/public_html/zhongwenmovies.com/Youshows_Demo.zip.zip, and cannot find /home/deejaydo/public_html/zhongwenmovies.com/Youshows_Demo.zip.ZIP, period.

any ideas?

thanks.

Don't extract on the server, i doubt your server supports it. Unzip locally, and then upload entiry folder to the right folder on your server. This might take a bit, and after that continue following the steps from the tutorial.

any ideas on how to upload the entire folder? :-) not sure if that's possible in cpanel.

after extraction....i go to upload, i click browse and it automatically opens the contents of the folder showing 'administration' 'cache' 'components' etc. then it opens the contents of those folders and so on...or else i'd try to upload each individually.

in the past we used fantastico but now it's not working.

could using filezilla resolve this?

Filezilla will definitely solve that yes. Hmm, i never use cpanel, this is my prefered method: How to install Youjoomla Demo?

thanks...i have been referencing that link as well as some video tutorials.

it's just that every time i use filezilla client to upload youjoomla demo to cpanel (public_html/zhongwenmovies) i receive the filezilla "target file already exists" pop-up dialog. did it with images and then with php files, but the directory was completely cleared/deleted so that doesn't make sense to me.

i have read that this could be due to a break in the server, so i've asked cpanel, but i could be off base.

still not sure what's happening with those duplicate files, but now i can't connect to the server through filezilla at all.

Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Error: Critical error
Error: Could not connect to server

contacted hostican. they believe this problem developed due to a server transfer they did a while back and are looking into it.
