What is wrong with my nails?

Hello!

I have had this problem with my nails for a couple of years at least. It affects my two large toenails and one other toenail.

I haven't injured them and it seems to never grow out - my toenails grow quite fast yet they always look like this.

I have tried a fungal nail treatment and that has not worked - I suspect it isn't fungal either given that usually these don't last as long as this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, getting a bit sick of having such ugly toenails at the moment,

Thanks!

Have you considered the possibility that your nails could be affected by a condition called psoriasis? This can cause thick, discolored nails that are slow to grow and prone to cracking. If you're experiencing any other symptoms, such as flaky or itchy skin, it might be worth seeing a dermatologist to get a proper diagnosis.
In the meantime, try keeping your nails trimmed short and clean to prevent further damage. I'm studying at one of the nail schools, and we will learn more about nail diseases soon, so let me know if you're interested, and I will share more.
